Getting to New Mexico

Planes

Albuquerque International Sunport

Albuquerque is home to the major airport in the area, the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ). Flying into ABQ, renting a car and driving an hour to Santa Fe is very easy (if you know how to drive, which not everyone does and that’s OK) and it is what Josie & Orion and Josie’s family have always done. If you have some time to spare, take the Turquoise Trail, a more scenic road that takes about 1.5 hours and leads you past old mining towns like Madrid (pronounced MAD-rid, NOT like the place where Josie studied abroad!) that are good places to stop and have lunch. If you would prefer to not rent a car, there are car services, shuttles, and train options to get you to Santa Fe.

Santa Fe Regional Airport

There is also a small airport in Santa Fe, Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF), which connects to Dallas, Denver and Phoenix and is serviced by American Airlines and United Airlines. It’s about a 20 minute drive from downtown, with car rentals, car services, shuttles, and Uber/Lyft as options to get you into the city.

Trains

If you have the time, long distance train travel can be surprisingly fun (Josie and Orion went overnight from New York to Chicago once) and views throughout the Southwest are famously scenic. Be aware that the closest Amtrak stop is Lamy, NM and will require a shuttle to/from Santa Fe.

If you are in need of train service within New Mexico, the Rail Runner Express commuter rail operates along the Rio Grande corridor and does go between Albquerque and Santa Fe.

Automobiles

If you are driving, I-25 is the major north-south highway that will take you directly into Santa Fe (including from Albquerque). As a point of reference, I-40 is the major east-west highway that passes through Albquerque.

Getting Around in Santa Fe

Walking

Santa Fe is a very walkable city and depending on where your accomodations are, you probably can walk to almost anywhere you’d like to go. Downtown Santa Fe and the surrounding historic districts are compact and easily accessible by foot.

Rideshare / Taxi / Car Service

Uber and Lyft are useful, usable options in Santa Fe if you need a quick ride. If you are new to ridesharing, sign up with our Lyft invite link to get $5 in ride credit or our Uber invite link to get a free ride!

Note that there is no official taxi service in the city. There are some car service options, although we have not personally used them before.

Public Transportation

If you prefer public transit, the city offers a free city shuttle (The Santa Fe Pick-Up) and a larger bus system (Santa Fe Trails).

Hotels

Santa Fe is a popular tourist destination and there are tons of hotels and inns within walking distance of where we and our families will be staying. If you are interested in one of our recommended hotels, check back soon for more info on potential room blocks!

La Posada de Santa Fe

Josie and Orion and their immediate families will be staying at this lovely hotel about three blocks from the Plaza. The casita-style rooms are spread out over a six-acre landscaped property that includes a spa, a swimming pool, and a cool historic bar. Please join us if you like! La Posada de Santa Fe is a Starwood / Marriott property, for those of you with loyalty points!

Inn and Spa at Loretto

A beautiful hotel with a distinctive exterior and Southwestern decor throughout. Inn and Spa at Loretto is a 10-minute walk from La Posada and it’s even more directly in downtown Santa Fe if you want the easiest access to the food & sights.

Hotel St. Francis and Hotel Chimayó

Hotel St. Francis and Hotel Chimayó are two other boutique hotels that are well-reviewed, within a 10-minute walk of La Posada, and have room blocks available for our guests. Note that Hotel Chimayó does share a name with the town where our ceremony will be held, but it is firmly located in downtown Santa Fe.

If you would like to book with Hotel St. Francis, you can either: 1) Call their reservation department (505-992-5863) and request the Pratt Room Block, 2) Use promo code PRATT on their website, or 3) use this direct reservation link to ensure you get their best available rates.

If you would like to book with Hotel Chimayó, you can either: 1) Call their reservation department (855-752-9273) and request the Pratt Room Block, 2) Use promo code PRATT on their website, or 3) use this direct reservation link to ensure you get their best available rates.

Hacienda Nicholas and The Madeleine

These almost-neighboring bed & breakfasts are a bit more affordable and only one block north of La Posada. Both Hacienda Nicholas and The Madeleine have open courtyards you can hang out in!

Airbnb

Josie and Orion have stayed at multiple Airbnbs in and around Santa Fe and have had a fantastic time at every one. Given Santa Fe’s status as a tourist-friendly destination, there are plenty of great Airbnb homes around the city and we wholeheartedly recommend it as an option.
